Florida Keys family accommodation

I am not getting anywhere searching for a family style hotel/resort in the Florida Keys.

I know it's a bit late for August but all I can find is either motel rooms (no beach area) or resorts for over £1000 for four nights!

There are five of us (myself, DH, DS, DD, and my mother) so we really need at least two bedrooms - with one bedroom having two double beds for us and the children to sleep on. Or alternatively two separate rooms (with enough beds) would do. There must be something out there for less than a grand.

Just want something clean, nothing fancy, beach, pool and within walking distance to some restaurants.

Does anybody have any recommendations?

Hey, I don't have any recommendations specifically, but just to let you know most hotels on key west don't have their own beaches.

I stayed at the Reach for my honeymoon last year, which is one of the few that does, but it mostly works on a public beach system. Everywhere is vv walkable, so have a look on a map for where the public beaches are. It may be a great idea to book a cheaper motel and walk 5 mins (if that) to the beach!

Florida keys is really popular/expensive. as Curls says very few places have a beach. there are lots of public beaches and parks like John Pennekamp. if you are going because you want a beach holiday then you might find this is not the right spot for you. the west coast of florida around annamarie island would be better for this. I think £1,000 for 4 nights for 5 people is only £50 per person per night. you would struggle to book a Travelodge in the UK in a holiday area in August for that so I don't think it is too bad. we have stayed in appartments before but these were weekly lets. what sort of thing are you hoping to do on the keys? there are some places in Islamorada at the top end with places that have bits of sand but not luxurious greek style beaches. pm me if you want some more details/info.

Thanks mummymeister.

We are actually booked to stay on Anna Maria Island for a week before the Keys! Hotel right on the beach with stunning sunsets etc.

At the Keys want to go to the state parks, boat trips, the Dolphin Research Centre, possibly trip down to Key West - that sort of thing.

A beach is not a top priority as we'll have been to AMI. But would like somewhere safe for the children to be able to play outside (so not a marina or dock yard), pool, nothing fancy, but clean.

Not many beaches on the Keys really. Have a look at the Southernmost hotels in Key West, we stayed in one of their smaller rooms for a few nights as a family of 4 a couple of years ago. It's not cheap, but August should be quiet for them (be prepared for it to be HOT).
