Staying overnight tomorrow night at Travelodge in Basingstoke to avoid the bank holiday crowds on route to Dorset. Any one any recommendations for a restaurant?

"on" should of course be "en"

Bump, someone must be from Basingstoke or know the area, please otherwise the Fimbles will be at MacDonalds or Burger King

I don't think Basingstoke is a centre of culinary excellence

you could try The Fox

A bit grim is it? That will explain why I managed to get the room for £26 on a bank holiday weekend then. Thank you for the link.

En route to Dorset from where?

Basingstoke is not lovely. Lots of nice villages around it though

Fimbo · 24/08/2006 14:40

Hoddington Arms looks good CD - thank you!

or you are on teh right side of Basingstoke for the Wheatsheaf which used to be nice but is now a chef and brewer sort of place I think, child friendly but...

Fimbo · 24/08/2006 14:47

I think the travelodge maybe next door to that. Harvesters iirc, I have been to one of those once and I wouldn't be my choice to go to another.

www.thehalfmoomandspreadeagle.co.uk is the website for a pub called Half Moon and Spread Eagle near Micheldever! - it is a small drive, but is the only place you will find halfway decent food -
On the outskirts of Basingstoke is a shopping Centre called Festival Place, that has a steakhouse, Waggamamma etc - would do in a pinch!

Coolmama · 24/08/2006 15:11

sorry for the bad link

head to festival place, this ones not bad, it was reasonably priced, good play area, good service, if basic menu though, the usual steaks, burgers, chicken. we went on a busy saturday lunchtime and the kids loved it.

Definitely head for Festival Place, shops, cinemas, loads of restaurants. Favourite one there is Wagamama.

Thank you Vicky and Blue Sky - will definately head over there tonight!
