Car seat hire in France

We have booked car hire and a seat for our two week holiday, and I am a bit concerned about the car seat (our lo will be 18mo) Obviously other people have hired them! What are they like and are they ok? Thanks

Some of my families have hired seats in europe and USA, i found the europe seats as a rule to be poorly maintained with straps not working properly or things missing, ripped covers and dirty.

The USA seats were not pristine but in good working order.

Is there no way you can take your car seat as luggage?
