Anyone know the Vendee?

We are off there on Saturday. I'm just wondering what the sea is like there - if there's any surf and if it's worth us packing the boards and wet suits.

Cold atm! Have just come back and it was a nippy 14 degrees C some days.

So the wet suits might come in handy. There is some reasonable surf at Jard sur Mer (they have a surf school). (nice beach btw, if a little steeply shelving for little ones) Clean loo on the beach and some small cafes that do take away coffee, sandwitches and ice creams. It is suppoed to be better again at La Tranche sur mer, but I haven't been there myself.

The town of Jard is also quite nice, and you can easily park in the woods that back onto the sand dunes, nice place to picnic

Thanks AQ - I didn't think to go on uk campsite.

Thanks too MB, I shall make a note of those places. I've been trying to find out the weather too and it's not looking that good. We opted for the Vendee this year as it was a bit iffy last year in Brittany and we thought it'd be hotter. Better go and pack some additional clothes then!

I have found a surfing website now and it looks like the surf's OK a bit further south than we are, so it's probably worth taking the stuff.

TBH the surf seemed to be a bit hit and b=miss. Southern Vendee is thought to be better.

We were lucky with the weather in as much as it didn't rain, but there was a chilly wind, particularly at night, so worth taking a fleace or a few jumpers.

Where are you going?

the parc de attractions is worth a visit in brem-sur-mer if your children are not tiny ...say 5+.

it is jsut off the main road and would be ok on a dry cool day. basically it is a non-mechanical fairground...you have to use your own muscle peower to get things going, HUGE bouncy things for big kids (adults). a really good day out

just found this too

Thanks - all this info is really helpful. We've now got the added complication in that dsd was run over last night. She's fine and can still come with us but needs the stitches in her head out midweek. So it looks like surfing is out anyway - for her at least.
