Animal related day out Bham + 1hr

I'm looking for something to do with the children next weekend - ages 5 and 8. No theme parks, preferably something animal related and ideally within an hour of Birmingham. We went to Twycross the other week and they loved it (much better than I remember).

We were going to try Birdworld in Surrey but at 2 hours away its just too far. Been looking online but it's hard to know if you havent been there whether its any cop or not. Any ideas?

ooh Cmot I didnt realise there was a closer Birdworld.

We thought about the Butterfly farm, kids have been before and loved it, but I think its a little early in the year for all the butterflies. Thanks, will look at all of those!

Nature Centre in South Birmingham? It's only little though, so not a full day thing.

PfftTheMagicDraco · 20/04/2014 22:26

I think the kids would kill me if I took them to the nature Centre again Grin Grin
I think budget cuts have hit it hard tbh, it's gone downhill in recent years.

is Dudley Zoo still awful? I haven't been for 15 years.

Oh that's a shame - it used to be lovely. Not been to Dudley Zoo for 20 years or so - it used to be hideous.

What's that Country place? Is it Hatton?

PandaNot · 20/04/2014 22:44

West Midlands safari park is excellent, thoroughly recommend it.

justabigdisco · 20/04/2014 22:47

My parents live near Dudley zoo and say it is pretty good now, they've spruced it up a lot in recent years. How about monkey forest in Trentham?

Twooter · 20/04/2014 22:48

Yep hatton country world, near warwick
