We're off to Jamaica in June with our 18 month old. He has his own seat & so his own hand luggage & need ideas of things to entertain him on the flight. I have things like crayons, stickers, books etc but am stumped now - it's going to be a long flight lol.

Thanks.

We've got a night flight with our 17 mo coming up (I say night flight but bet she will only sleep for 4-5 hours of it).

Tips I have picked up (but not yet tried out!):

  • take billions of snacks, especially ones which take a while to eat like raisins
  • mini megasketcher/doodle pro type thing
  • Colour Magic/aqua draw
  • stickers (especially the gel kind which peel off)
  • child friendly earphones and ipad or smartphone. Lots of toddler friendly apps.
  • walk up and down the aisles and look out of emerg exit (you may want reins if he is a runner)
  • anything he particularly likes? eg mine loves water bottles so a sports bottle will keep her amused for a bit. she also loves emptying boxes of tissues so one of those is going in.
  • random items you might be taking anyway - so for example I've got a disposable travel toothbrush and compact hairbrush she can play with. anything really, as long as it's child safe - anything with novelty value.
  • a mirror of some kind for various games

Don't show him the things until u r on the plane, and then you can produce the bag of surprises.

Ah, thank you very much, I've started my shopping list ;-)

Someone once recommended (although I never did it) to wrap the gifts as it will take them longer to open them and make it all the more exciting - a bit like a pass the parcel - just an idea! xxx

Not sure if he's a bit too young, but my kids used to love the Usbourne 1001 things to spot books for plane journeys.
