Is it ok to pack aerosol sprays into check-in luggage?

I've always put them in my hand luggage before, thinking they might explode or leak in the baggage hold.

Advice please

I have always put them in the hold and have had no problems. If shampoo / liquids, squeeze a little air out and screw on lids tightly and i pack into individual ziplock food bags.
