Anyone own property in Italy?

Thinking of buying a holiday home in Italy, probably Tuscany.

Anything we would need to know before offering? How the buying process works and taxes etc?

Think what you want the holiday home for - my pils had always dreamed of 'retiring' to italy and now have a place in tuscany. It is absolutely beautiful. BUT where they live is halfway up a mountain, so when it snows at the top of the mountain, it rains where they are. Mil once said she would never spend jan and feb in ireland (where they live) again, but then it turned out their bit of italy was just as wet and miserable at that time of year, so they never spend the winter in italy after all.
