Where is my baggage? >>>Cry<<<

I went away for 2 weeks to Eastern Europe arriving back on 16th August. Was supposed to take our connecting flight to Manchester on 16th Aug 1.5 hrs after landing in Gatwick but as we were delayed in the terrible airport in Pristina, Kosova we did not make it in London Gatwick on time to get out Manchester flight so the lovely people at BA but us up in a very nice hotel overnight. We were almost in tears at having to stay overnight in London G as we are not very seasoned travellers but soon as we saw our hotel room and ordered room service dinner courtesy of BA we were jumping around in excitement and actually welcome of the break inbetween our flights. Bright and early the next day we trundled onto the Manchester bound flight and all was well. The flight was fantastic but when we got to Manchester our bags did not come round on the carousel. OMG. So we went to the BA desk and they said of all the terrorist troubles London airports had been having and that our bags will be with us soon. We were given a ref no. to check the bags status on the net. My travel companion recieved her suitcase on Saturday but me, now 5 days later, still has NOOOO suitcase. I only brought my keys and purse as well as travel documents as that was advised by BA as all was allowed in handluggage so in my suitcase is 2 mobile phones as well as v.expensive mp3 player, some gorgeous expensive handbags, shoes and jewellery I bought out there and I am miffed. Also priceless...a note my best friend (he lives out there) wrote on a paper serviette in a burger bar. That is in there and I wont see him for a year. Anyone elses bags missing so long only to turn up? I'm giving up all hope of a return now.

Don't give up hope of them coming back to you - lots of bags are late / delayed at the moment and there's no reason to think they'll never make it home.
What did their status say when you checked it on the net?

Did you reclaim yur bags at Gatwick or could they have been lost on the first flight? tbh it is such chaos with the baggage handlers that it could well be sitting in a heap somewhere. What does the tracker site say ?

NannyStar · 22/08/2006 12:45

Hello. thanks so much for your replies.

The tracker site says 'TRACING CONTINUES' for my suitcase and 'DELIVERY INITIATED' for my travel partners who has received hers on this Saturday gone.

Do you have the number for the Gatcwick Lost Baggage area ? They were really good with our ski bag a few months back but I suppose may well be overwhelmed atm. Did it defintiely make it there ?

When we went to the BA desk at Gatwick, which is when they said they would put us up in the hotel, they said dont worry about the bags, they will be sent on the same aircraft as you tomorrow. The Gatwick to Manchester plane was virtually empty apart from about 10 business passengers and 6 leisure passengers, so much so I moved behind my friend so we had the whole of 3 seats to ourselves. There were 2 passengers who had flown from Pristina same as us and stayed with us in the same hotel and then next morning on to Manchester who also had gone to the desk to enquire about their baggage so I am assuming they were in the same boat. Also some Thomas Cook cabin crew who had boarded at London with us to go to Manchester was missing baggage upon arrival at Manchester.

Lufhansh (sp?) lost my DH bag on Friday night. They delivered it on Saturday afternoon and the man asked how long we had been waiting. He told us he had a bag on his truck he was delivering from nearly 6 weeks ago.

Don't lose heart I am sure it will turn up.

DH loses his bag with different airlines all the time.

LIZS · 22/08/2006 12:59

Hmm doesn't sound as if they necessarily had arrived from Pristina with you though, if you didn't actually reclaim them. Or they could easily have been sat on a trolley or carousel fro a while and then not boarded the Manchester flight, possibly being reexamined in the process. Funny how your friend's has now arrived though.

dh had a nightmare travelling domestic in the early part of last week as normally he'd just take a carry-on bag but because of the new security it had to go in the hold, along with all the other business travllers' bags. In fact BA didn't run any domestic flights out of Gatwick last Monday because of this chaos, he had to go via City instead. So much for getting back to normal !

Hi Lizs, BA said on the wednesday night they would keep the bags in the airport so there was no need to reclaim them and that way we wouldnt have to lug them to the hotel with us. I really dont know what to think anymore. I was going to take pics of the kids I used to nanny for to show my friends over there too.....so glad I didnt now or all those memories may have been lost.
