due to go to spain next week and dh cannot drive due to him falling off his bike last week.
this means i have to drive, im not confident on motorways in this country never mind on the wrong side of the road in a rhd car ! i am dreading it, im seriously thinking about forgetting the hire car and just getting a taxi but then we will be stuck all week with no transport and the beach is not walkable so the kids would complain. what shall i do???

It will take some getting used to but having a car set up to RHD will make it easier to think that way. Is it an automatic car as you may find that easier than fumbling with gears.

its a manual, ive never driven an automatic so i thought that might confuse me even more.

Oh, do you mean driving on the R in a LHD car, lyla?

It is a bit scary to begin with but you get used to it quite quickly - roundabouts are very odd because you go round them the wrong way but you do get used to that too.

Which part of Spain are you going to?

Agree with Liz, if you get an automatic it would be a lot easier (I always find I'm trying to change gear with the window winder ), especially if you tuck your left foot away behind your right leg so you don't try to use it instinctively.

When we were in Spain we didn't hire a car but did go out in a taxi, they are quite cheap so maybe you could think about doing that instead?
If you are in the car on the opposite side to what you usually drive, it comes naturally ro drive on the opposite side of the road (or so DH says!) In Majorca, the roads were very simple, one main road and lots of side streets!

I personally wouldn't want to drive there but then again I'm not confident driving my own car!

No, but as long as you aren't on Costa del Sol (terrible main road through there) it shouldn't be too bad.

Just looked on a map, you don't have to go on the motorway, there is an ordinary road which runs more or less parallel; but Spanish motorways are emptier than UK ones IME, you might be happier on there than you'd think.

Good luck anyway
