Holiday in Majorca

Can anyone help please? We're off to Alcudia in 2 weeks with our 2yr old and 8 month old. I don't want to take hundreds of nappies so does anyone know if there's a big supermarket in Alcudia? I'll also want to buy jars of baby food. Any advice on travelling with rugrats gratefully received!

We went to majorca but in a different area when our little one was 10 months. We took nappies with us although they had them out there - they had their own brand and then huggies so it depends on whether you mind using something different. They also had loads of hipp organic stuff in the main supermarkets so we just took snacky stuff. The people we came across in the restaurants were great with our lo and were very approachable about helping us out with kiddies meals. Hope you have a fab time!!!

We just got back from Alcudia, there are plenty of Spar supermarkets there where you can buy nappies from, no idea of price as neither of my kids are in nappies anymore.

Which hotel are you staying at?

hattiesmum · 20/08/2006 20:19

Thanks! Am REALLY looking forward to a holiday and it's nice to know I won't use up our baggage allowance with nappies/wipes/jars/drinks....!

Sorry kid, just saw your message. We're staying at the Alucudia Beach Aparments. Any idea if they're ok? Please say they are, I've already paid in full!!

We stayed just outside of Alcudia last year and the west coast, south of Palma, the year before and there were small local supermarkets selling baby stuff and just about everything else you may need and there was also a largish chemist nearby with baby supplies according to dh. Ours are past that age anyway but I doubt it will be a problem.

If you want a really big supermarket there is a retail complex about half way between Palma and Alcudia, accessible if you are hiring a car, and I'm sure I saw a sign to another large supermarket just outside Alcudia.

I've stayed at Bellevue which is in Alcudia and recently stayed at Prinsotel La Dorada which was fantastic.
Haven't heard of the hotel you are staying in, have you looked at reviews on here

LIZS · 20/08/2006 20:41

I was the La Dorada we went to last October, which was lovely but unfortunately I was ill in bed most of the week !

kid · 20/08/2006 20:42

My FIL fell over whilst on the hotel premises and broke his arm he finds out tomorrow if he needs an operation.
I loved the swimming pool there, the night time entertainment was awful though.

LIZS · 20/08/2006 20:46

dd loved the disco but possibly because it was later in the season there wasn't much else worth experiencing ! Your poor FIL, how unfortunate. Found the hotel dr pretty good though.

kid · 20/08/2006 20:48

We had to go to Hospital De Muro, cost us almost 700 euros, ouch!
The hotel staff were really good, Carlos and Marissa

hattiesmum · 20/08/2006 20:50

Thanks for the link, it doesn't look too bad. Anyway, at least it's a holiday, we haven't been away since 2003 (pre children)! Quite frankly a week in Beirut would sound appealing right now!!

ooer £££ , soudns nasty , where did he fall ?

kid · 20/08/2006 21:05

He fell over between block 1 and the reception, on the green slope. Of course the holiday rep wasn't interested, we have wrote a letter of complaint, just waiting to hear back now.

themoon66 · 20/08/2006 21:33

My DS broke his leg in Mallorca. It was only the 3rd day of the holiday. I saw the inside of the Clinica Familia in Palma for the rest of the two weeks.

One day I will go back and explore the island properly.

TheBlonde · 20/08/2006 21:36

Dodot nappies are pampers by another name

kid · 20/08/2006 21:36

did you get any refund on the cost of the holiday or did you try to?
(sorry for hijacking the thread hattiesmum , but it keeps it bumped to the top!)

alexsmilitantmum · 20/08/2006 21:37

majorca is cursed for us.

ds1 dislocated his elbow there one year, broke his arm another year and earlier this year my dad collapsed on the street in palma with a heart condition and spent 8 days in hospital in palma.nightmare.

but is lovely though! and great for kids.

Blondilocks · 20/08/2006 21:43

We stayed in the south-west a few weeks ago - the supermarket there was reasonable & I'm sure there will be similar ones in the North. The one we went to had a reasonably sized baby-stuff section.

There were lots and lots of babies/toddlers so they're bound to have plenty of baby supplies for sale.

EvesMama · 20/08/2006 21:47

hatties mum we stayed in palma nova in feb, they did have pampers but were very very expensive!about £18 for lrge pack that would be £9 over here!!!..we bought some spanish make for dd to see if they ok and they were fine..this was at like a co op type store.

cowmad · 20/08/2006 23:09

(prounc) pan-yar-lays
nappies in spanish if you end up in a store that dosnt speak english!

LIZS · 21/08/2006 08:41

kid at rep . We'd booked direct (much cheaper than Thomas Cook !) so were on our own. That front area was slippery though especially when they had watered the plants. Think we were in block 1 (1st on left?), had a view over nature reserve.

kid · 21/08/2006 09:18

We were in block one too, 2nd floor facing the reception building.

hattiesmum · 21/08/2006 09:59

Thanks for the advice everybody. Will be looking for Dodots as soon as we hit the resort! Will also be trying not to end up in hospital, how unlucky are you lot!!!
