Will you please give me all your advice on travel insurance? Boring I know...

but a necessity. I'm one of those plan ahead people, for all eventualities, and want to make sure we're well insured. We're flying to Canada in Sept, 3 of us and ds who was 1 this month, we're going for 3 weeks.
Who does the best holiday insurance? We're going independantly so don't know where to start. What things do I need to make sure we're insured for? My friend left her bag on the plane last month and got nothing from her insurance company as she hadn't got a police report for them, this is the kind of thing that I live in fear of!!!

you must read the policy conditions very carefully. its very boring amd small print i know. eg for medical cover - you dont want to get ill then discover its excluded because its a pre existing condition and you didnt declare it
