Samur castle and town is pretty, lots of castles around and good cycling

Depends where you are staying but I'd go and see at least one chateau. They are all great imo but Chenonceaux is one of my favourites amongst the biggest ones. And then you are near to Chinon.

We've been to the Loire Valley twice in recent years. I would just warn you that the first visit we visited several chateaux the last of which was Chenonceau. It is fabulous, but so so crowded. Incredibly so on the afternoon we visited almost to the extent we could hardly squeeze into some rooms. Such a shame. Other smaller ones we liked were Langeais, and Azay le Rideau. Depending on children's ages kayaking on the Loire is fun too.

There are lots of 'swinging through the trees' type parks (can't remember the right term!) throughout France, usually with good courses for all ages.

& there is a fab tank museum ('Blindes') in Samur if anyone in your family is keen on that sort of thing!

Swin golf

My children loved it and there are supposed to be loads of courses in France

Brive Chateau & the zoo at Doue.

The chateau at Chambord is good as it has a double helix staircase that kept DC amused for hours.

Sorry, I meant Chateau Breze & Doue
