We're planning to head to France in May/June with our baby, who'll be almost 1. We'll be driving over so either ferry/channel tunnel to Calais. Then as DD isn't great in the car, we'd like to find somewhere no more than 2 hrs drive from Calais. Ideally self catering gite somewhere fairly rural, nice surroundings in the countryside, good food and wine, maybe a small town to visit, interesting markets a plus. I speak French, if that helps. Any suggestions for some off piste places to visit?

Oh and accommodation doesn't have to be 'baby friendly' as we don't use a cot or a buggy, and can easily bring a portable highchair.
