Less than 6 months left in passport and going to Vegas

Hi all
I am off to the US (Vegas)in 3 weeks time and my passport expires in September this year so by the time I return to the UK I will have 5 months left on it!
The US embassy website states that there is an agreement between the USA and UK and that there is no time restriction so long as it is in date at the time of travel.
Has anyone travelled back and forth to the US with less than six months on their passport?
I am tempted to renew!

I would renew your passport when you return from Las Vegas.

From the Foreign Office website re entry requirements to the US:-
"Your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay. You don’t need any additional period of validity on your passport beyond this".

Do not forget to do your ESTA now online if this has not already been done.
