The Canaries?

What are the canaries like? Am vaguely looking at them for maybe a holiday next year and almost definately our honeymoon. Not terribly exciting but v.affordable.

What are they like? Are any islands/resorts nicer than another? What is the weather like in November? Are they really touristy and have no culture? Everyone I have mentioned going to the canaries for honeymoon has fulled a face.

Are they nice?

Lanzarote is good for things to see and do - Cesar Manrique house and other stuff. Also almost no high rise buildings on the whole island
Fuerte is nice but not much there apart from sand
Really didn't like Tenerife as too much high rise etc

Have been to Teneriffe and Gran Canaria, do not bother with the latter, the only bit work going to is Puerto Banus, and its not good for more than a few days......so I'd say if you go, head for the main island Teneriffe!
Have stayed in Puerto Cruz there, and its very nice, it's the quieter northern half of the island, and whilst it still has a lot to do (transfer time of 1hr from airport) its the more 'cultured' end of the island! the south being good if you fancy a beer and lots of sunshine if you get my drift. The north is more cloudy, but you still get plenty of sun! There's lots to do on the island, volcanoes to go up, 'lost' villages to visit, that sort of thing, defo the better of the ones I've been to and I would go back again.

Went to Tenerife earlier this year mainly for the weather - plus free hotel points! Stayed at Sheraton La Caleta -pretty nice and better than we thought. Hated the water park - payed 1oo euros and stayed 10 mins - full of red people with lots of tatoos, dirty, busy, extra charge to sit down (!) and chip butties for sale... escaped pretty quickly back to calm of hotel. Some fab little fish restaurants by the sea - wonderful. Didn't do the volcano bit as we'd promised the kids a relaxing holiday after Iceland a couple of months before.
