Disney and Florida beach holiday on the Gulf Coast

We are planning a holiday to Florida in May/June and would like some advice. We have 2 children age 2 and 4 and would like to do Disney for 2 days and relax on a beach for a week or so. What can everyone recommend? We would prefer a beach with calmer waters and maybe a few activities nearby that the children would like. Thanks everyone.

We have booked for August. We are doing Disney followed by 4 days in Clearwater. Someone on here recommended it. We are staying at the Sandpearl. It is on the Gulf Coast....roll on August! Our boys are 7 and 9 and it will be our first trip there as a family.

Hire a car and take a week on the keys, it's so lovely, quiet but beautiful

Brilliant. Thank you. I'll have a look at these suggestions tomorrow Smile.

Clearwater is lovely, we stayed at the pelican suites last year, right opposite a lovely beach. For Kids the captain nemo pirate trip is a must

Clearwater looks lovely. I've heard the sea can be a little rough on the Gulf Coast though - does anyone know if this is true? Thanks everyone.

Seaside on the Gulf Coast is beautiful (it's where they filmed the Truman Show), lovely beaches and sea was fine when we went.

The sea is very calm on the gulf coast.
I have stayed in Clearwater on sand key at the marriot suites. This was great for us as a family because we had a separate living room. The kids could go to sleep before us.
You have amazing views over the bay of the dolphins and it's a 5 min walk to the beach.

We have also stayed further down the coast at treasure island at a place called Sunset Vistas.
Right on the beach and with 2 proper bedrooms and a full kitchen .

Our bedroom looked out over the beach. Just amazing.

We went a bit further south on the gulf coast to Fort Myers. Nice sandy beaches & known for wildlife. Also very close to Sanibel & Captiva if you want to see how the other half live. There were some good playgrounds with water features and crazy golf is big!
