I want to get my ds a passport but do I have to get xp's signature or permission? What can anyone tell me about this process. I am the resident parent and I have got his full origin birth certificate.

Really not sure about this sorry. Have you seen the form yet? I think only one of us had to sign it. (I do remember being impressed that they did actually check with the person who signed the back of the photo though!)

I THINK you need permission from other parent - certainly do for Irish ones.

And yes they do phone the person who signs the photo - DH signed for friends of ours and they did call him.

I got my kids theirs lasy year and xh didn't need to sign them, there was a space for his details but i just didn't put passporrt number on.

NO, you dont need exp's signature or anything. You only need one parent's details etc and the birth certificate. If you have a passport then all the better.

As long as you are UK resident and have been for some time and your ds is too. Have just applied for my DS's passport and was surprised to see they didnt require my DP's details.

You need his passport number, I remember that much.

Maybe it's changed - 5 years ago when I did it.
