Do not pay £25 like I did by going on a unofficial site!! Renewed cards arrived but with a letter saying renewals are free and to be careful of unofficial sites!! Surely they should be shut down not paying google for ad spots and coming up top when searching! Anyway I'm probably a minority but thought I'd pass this on..

Yes, go to the NHS website www.nhs.uk/healthcareabroad. You can apply to renew when there are less than six months left to run on it.

attempts are being made to shut down all these scam sites but they keep coming back. Same for driving licences and passports, which aren't free but cost a lot less from the government than the scam sites.

I think you can apply in the post office as well if you want to avoid the internet risk entirely.

I think they exist due to some kind of loophole unfortunately :(
