Scotland - October?

I'm thinking of arranging a trip to Scotland - driving - for the October half term. Maybe staying in a couple of different hotels - possibly West Coast - looking for scenery, but also 'things to do' with dh, ds (14) and dd (13).
Possibly golf, whisky trail etc. Perhaps a castle as one of the hotels. Any ideas? Am I made at that time of year? Thanks

Well you are preety much guarenteed rain any time of the year anyway .

Depends on your budget for hotels, SYHA hostelling association do some lovely castles, but perhaps not your thing if you are looking for hotels.

You could head up the M^ and turn off towards Dumfries and drive up the south section of the West coast or carry on up the M74 through Glasgow and head for the coast Via Loch lomond.

Another nice route is to head up the Great Glen from Fort William to Inverness.

Again activities depend on what your kids and you are into, walking, cycling, mountain boarding, climbing walls????

The coast via Loch Lomond sounds good. The kids - and dh - would be up for anything activity wise. Probably some walk, maybe cycle hire. I know dh and ds would like to play golf at least once, and I think a bit of whisky sampling would go down well! Thanks for your pointers skribble

Loads of whisky places that do tours and tastings, plenty of golf courses too.

If you stop off in Glasgow the kids might like Xscape activities are a bit pricey for me but loads to do and lots of eating places albeit of the big chain type}

Thanks Skribble and Pruni. I'm having so much fun trying to sort this out - loads better than just booking a flight and hotel! Better get some new waterproofs though.
