How many suitcases for family of 4 abroad?

Going on our first family holiday abroad for 2 weeks in the sun. There are 4 of us (me, husband, 4yr old and 8yr old). We are allowed 20kg each. Just bought 2 large 28" cases. Will this be enough? Was thinking of getting a medium 26" as well. The two large we have just bought look massive now we've got them home. Would we be better with 3 or even 4 medium 26" instead? Thanks

How are you getting around at the other end? If you have a hire car then you also need to think about whether all that luggage will fit in it.

One big case for 4 of us, plus 4 items of hand luggage.
I roll all clothes up.

I wouldn't like to do that in case it goes missing. Nothing like putting all your eggs in one basket. We take three medium/small cases and pack a mixture of all of our stuff in each in case one goes missing.

you may of course take as much as you like within the weight allowance - more, if you don't mind paying more.

it just seems to make life very hard work lugging more than you need.

not much help really but for 5 of us i started with 5 cases plus 5 hand luggage and by the last time we flew ( spac of 5 years ) id got it down to 3 cases and 2 hand luggage

Ooh Moolady you are an inspiration-that is a great goal to aim for! I would need to build up to it though!

3 for us (and the last one is generally fully of kids crap anyway - nappies, wipes, snacks small toys etc.

So many different combinations of luggage arrangements!

5 of us( 9 yr old twins and 11 yr old) and we take 2 suitcases-which never add up to 20 kgs each and all have hand luggage -but that's in the sun.
Camping in Britain is a nightmare with wellies and jumpers and cagooles!
