Great day out - canon(s) loads of them, and he loved the audio tour because of the battle sound effects, and at one o'clock they fire the gun.

I remember going when I was small and tbh it was me who wanted to go so really nice surprise that he liked it so much!

Next time would book tickets online so can use the priority ticket queue

Did you go recently? I find Edinburgh hard work with the kids (I have 3 ds) during August - too may tourists .

The other castles about - Craigmiller, Direlton and Tantallon are all good but don't have fancy audio tours (or the huge queues or price tags). Took my middle ds (aged 4) and his friend (5) to Tantallon, nr North Berwick on Tuesday - he was telling me today it was one of his favourite days this holiday!

If you are in Edinburgh I can recommend the Edinburgh Dungeons.... its great, although possibly a little scarey for 5 year olds...
