Florida keys. fantastic place. loads of outdoors type stuff to do if your kids are in to that. cycling, boats, snorkelling, swimming, everglades I could go on. why not look at hopping over the border into Canada.

Vickiyumyum · 24/02/2014 17:48

Boston

PeppermintScreams · 24/02/2014 19:26

Florida.

There are all the universal and sea world parks to do. Downtown Disney is free to get in so they might like the shops and restaurants there. It's not too Disneyfied. Also the Space coast.

A cruise out of Florida

ihatethecold · 24/02/2014 19:46

Gulf coast.
Amazing beaches and wildlife

Dude ranch in Arizona

San Francisco. Compact, friendly, walking city. Loads of outdoor activities, cycle over Golden Gate, try surfing. Museums such as the Exploratorium, Alcatraz. Combine with a few days in Yosemite or Lake Tahoe area for more action activities/wildlife.

MorrisZapp · 25/02/2014 14:58

Upstate New York.

Vermont, the home of Ben and Jerrys!

Beaches in New Jersey

Beautiful Boston and Cambridge

Anywhere in California, though the flight is looooong

PestoSnowissimos · 25/02/2014 15:01

Ranch holiday - Montana & Yellowstone Park.

Skiing in Colorado - the powder!!

celestialsquirrelnuts · 25/02/2014 15:03

Practically anywhere. Boston/cape cod/maine
Or Arizona/Sedona/Grand Canyon

haggisaggis · 25/02/2014 15:14

Last year we had a week in New Hampshire near North Conway - really good as we had swimming / boating on the lake but also close to a mountain resort and other activities. We also like Cape Cod for beaches - Boston is nice but would get boring after a couple of days. This year we're trying Arizona to experience desert.

I'd have to say Cape Cod. Gorgeous beaches and scenery, but lots of other things to do, much of it child friendly, such as:

The children's illustrator Edward Gorey's house in Yarmouth Port
Whale watching in Provincetown
The Children's Museum in Mashpee
Millions upon millions of fun ice cream parlours

Loads of child (and adult) friendly suggestions here and people are so, so friendly and welcoming.

Any one or several of the fantastic national parks. They are very accessible yet retain a completely wild feeling. The South West is particularly good for touring around in a hire car or RV: Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Canyonlands, etc You can fly in/out from San Francisco, LA or Las Vegas so can start off settled for a few days then drive onwards to leave from a different location. Takes a lot of planning though if you do your own route but if you are the sort of person that likes researching stuff then it's pretty easy on the internet, loads of suggested itineraries.

We have taken our DDs to New York, Boston and California. All were fab holidays. Boston is great for a city break and NYC fab!! We have been to Florida and there is a lot to do beside Disney. Washington would be good. Also Canada. Have fun.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 26/02/2014 14:28

Yes, there is a lot more to Florida than Disney.

As for Arizona, I would wait to see if the Governor vetoes this highly objectionable legislation.

Upstate NYC is overrun with waterfalls and lakes. Very nice. Areas surrounding Ithaca, etc.

HandbagAddiction · 26/02/2014 22:07

Love upstate NY. We spent a week around Lake George a few years ago now in the winter and it was amazing. Loads of snow and a completely frozen over. It would be fantastic in the summer and there are loads of places you can rent which back onto the lake.
