Tips for flying when pregnant

DH,dd & I are thinking of going away for a hol before baby2 arrives. We have no idea where we are wanting to go but dh has just suggested New York...

Whats your advice for flying when pregnant.? I will be no more than 6 months. DD will be around 17 months. Do I need to worry about hospitals etc in case anything happens while away..?

when I was pregnant with DS we went to South Africa (at 7 weeks only though) and New Zealand (at 5 months). Both trips were totally fine and I have to admit I didn't give a second's thought to hospitals... but we were visiting friends in both places. The flights were fine as well. I wouldn't go anywhere particularly undeveloped though, but I'm sure New York's hospitals would be fine.

Check your insurance - mine won't let me fly after 32 weeks without a doctor's note (guess the stewards don't have training in delivering babies...!!), so you should be fine.

you need to inform the airline - they all have different rules as to when / if they accept pg women.

I flew with virgin last year and they gave some great advice - they also list as pg on passenger list I think.

wear flight socks, keep moving, lots of fluids

take your mat notes with you and check insurance covers mat expenses

Insurance would be the main thing to check. Like others say - take your notes and let the airline know.

i flew to Aus when I was 19 weeks pregnant and to Amsterdam when 32 weeks pregnant.

Took my notes, checked with airlines, told them at check in and just made sure long haul I walked and kept my legs moving etc to stop swelling and drank lots of water.

got a docs not for the amsterdam flight and no one even looked at it. Guess I did not look that pregnant.
