Yes. Packed.

But little village about 1 mile away - Kouatlafari (sp) is lovely and more family friendly (IIRC, we went 10 years ago, pre-kids).

Not much beach though.

t the star beach? is that ok?

Ok, I think (you mean by the star hotel?)

But small and not all that sandy, I recall.

(Beautiful sands along the coast at Malia but that really IS Club18-30 - yuk.)

How about Agais Nikoias - also Crete but more like a fishing village. Quite touristy but much older/family clientele.

Or one of my fave places in the world - Thassos - a little island, early in development. There is a resort called Golden Beach which is out of this world. Pretty quiet, fab beach, not masses in the way of waterparks/amusements but ds may be a bit young for thoes anyway.

Corfu/parts of zante also great for families I'm told.

You'll have a wonderful time - the greeks love kids!

trace2 · 04/08/2006 09:16

dont like corfu, but love tsilvi in zante but been 4 times would like some thing diffrent

Have a look at Thassos then. Fab. Can't wait till our dds are big enough to go there.

PollyLogos · 04/08/2006 09:32

I haven't been to Thassos but dh who has been there several times for work says it is a lovely island. Halkidiki would also be worth looking at.

Both these places are northen greece though, so it would depend a bit on when, in september you plan to go. Late september might be a bit changeable weatherwise, although in the main the weather will be good.I loved Tsilivi too when my kids were young!

Used to stay at Stalis when I was a teenager - it was idyllic - beautiful beach, couple of lovely tavernas, not much else. and if you wanted some wilder action, you could stroll a mile down to Malia. Imagine my horror when I returned 5 years later to find out Stalis had been expanded and 'developed' to the extent it is now a suburb of Malia (which is, exactly as Sassy says, Club 18-30 hell)
So sad, but generally speaking, Crete is beutiful, and pretty easy to negociate on public transport, so wherever yyou end up staying, you are not far from somewhere lovely.

Have you considered Santorini ?

boudicca · 04/08/2006 10:15

Hi fmf - just spoke on the other thread!I was looking at some photos the other day of Malia when I slept out on the beach there in 1977. It was a tiny village of about 20 houses, 2 tavernas, one disco and not much else- amazing how much it has changed (for the worse in my opinion)

Trace2 how old are your children? what sort of place are you looking for?

trace2 · 04/08/2006 14:09

thanks for your replys, ds is 4 we like to walk in the evnings, but also like a drink with ds with us and a play ground
