Berlin - where is best area to stay?

Hi all I am trying to work out where is the best area to stay and am getting conflicting advice from Mitte and near the KaDeWe.

Any advice?

I would say Mitte

any particular reason?

Sorry was at work! Just easier to get around, Kadewe is in the area which used to be the centre until the wall came down.

We went last year and were a little north east of Checkpoint Charlie. Very convenient for everythhing we wanted to see. We were in Kadewe direction only once. We could walk to a lot, and were not far from a U-Bahn station, but the buses are great too. I know I'd have felt too far from the main sites we wanted to see had we been in Kadewe.
