Need help - can anyone recommend me a good cheap holiday!

We're thinking of May 2007. 2 adults a 4 year old and a 1 year old. We'd like it to be hot enough to be out and about.

We had thought of a caravan in France but the ferry supplements are huge and most warm enough sites are far too much of a drive from Calais (bearing in mind we are also 4-5 hours from Dover) so the cost really racks up. I hate ferries, I get so sick!

We've never been to Spain or Portugal so we wouldnt have a clue where to start. We like quietish resorts but with enough going on to entertain the small children, but no clubbers paradise.

Help? We really dont know where to start and have a tight budget of £500 for all 4 of us!

Lanzarote is hot that time of year, quiet, and not a single nightclub on the whole island, but plenty to do as a family.

Oh thanks Waterfalls - I always imagined Lanzarote was full of 18-30 holidays and really chavvy! Not sure why!

Can you recommend any good resorts on the island?

I stay with my mum, so dont know the name of any good resrts, but the island is very small, you can drive from one end to the other within 40 minutes, so wherever you stay you wont be far away from anything. XL.com, are very cheap with no hidden costs, all food and entertainment in Lanzarote is incredibly cheap, and all the locals there worship children, they are renowned for it.
