Taking money abroad

Ok please excuse the obviousness of this thread I know its not rocket science!

Going on a package holiday to Greece in 2 weeks and we have budgeted £700 spending money and I have that money now but I don't know how to take it?

I have a cash card that will work abroad so should I take money out as I need it when I am there but then with the charges that can add up?

I was debating travellers cheques but the resort has no bank so I might loose out in commision/rates etc? But if we get burgled etc then we won't have lost any money.

OR we can just take cash but £700 is a LOT of money you know? I would not feel happy having that much in my house but I can always get it at the airport to avoid that. But then its a lot of money to have knockng around.

I think there is a safety deposit box in the hotel but its a cheap hotel so don't think we will have a safe in our room.

So yeah, how should I take £700 to a touristy resort in Greece TIA.

thats where we went in may to tsvili hoping to go back in sept

i always take cash because so many places don't accept travellers cheques and it does end up costing a lot if you keep using atms.

I would get it in cash, but divide it up between your luggage. don't keep it all in one place, because if you lost it then it's all gone. if you split it up and lose one bag at least you have the rest of it

where abouts in zante if you dont mind saying?

heavenis · 01/08/2006 21:28

I would take some Euros with you and have the rest in travellers cheques. Get some in your name and some in dp/dh's name. You usally have a returnable deposit to pay for a safety box.

I think travellers checks are a waste of time and normally you loose some money in the exchange.

What we do is take money out of cashiers as we need to (maestro/cirrus work mostly everywhere), we take several cards, carry one each and left the rest in a security box in the hotel.

PS> Cards are also insured and we take good care of taking the phone numbers to cancel them ASAP in case they are lost or stolen.
