We would like to spend some time near water for a few days following; Long Island , Hamptons , or New England possibly ?? We will have a 1year old so hotel has to be child friendly.
Any ideas would be great.

Melsy, How much time do you have? I am originally from Boston, and it can be very kid friendly. I went to school in the Hamptons, and would avoid it at all costs. Cape Cod is very sweet depending on what time of year you go, Martha's Vinyard is a cute little Island off the cost of Massachusets that the rich and famous like to holiday on(the clintons, Jackie O, SPike Lee!) Flying to Boston from NYC is only about an hour, and one good thing about Massachusets(the state Boston is in in case you don't know) is there is no tax on clothing. NYC it is 12 percent I think. I personally can't wait for my visit home so I can shop! The pound is so strong right now! Let me know your time frame and what you like to do and I can give you some advice.

melsy, we lived on Long Island for a while and the beaches on the south shore are lovely - Jones Beach and Fire Island are where we went.
We did day trips though - can't recommend any hotels. Jones Beach was just the beach - Fire Island is a resort but mostly holiday houses. I think if you don't mind the journey to get there Boston/Massachusetts would probably be a nicer holiday area.
