Family holiday in August to ayia napa...suggestions please

Would like to go with friends to Cyprus and looking into an area which will have the best of both worlds. So we would like a villa to have quiet daytimes, but would like to be near enough to walk into a town which is not packed, but busy enough. Things for kids and also good nightlife for nights when the adults separate and go out. Any suggestions of the best areas in Cyprus to do all this!? Thanks

I have never been to Ayia Napa, but my travel agent friend says is is a bit like Blackpool and very crowded in August.

Ayia Napa is a kiddy-drunk resort. Are you sure?

Ayia Napa is full of drunk 20-somethings - used to be lovely many years ago, but is pretty spoilt now. Proteras or Paphos are nice although the former isn't really that lively at night iirc. Limassol is good for families but has okay nightlife (going by my SIL's FB pages...) BTW August is horribly hot - you'll be stuck inside in the afternoon, far too hot to wander about as adults never mind with DC. Air conditioning is a must.

Honestly, the best suggestion would be not to go on a family holiday there.
