Recommendations for where to stay in either Croyde or Bournemouth areas

Hi, my husband and I have narrowed down this year's Summer holiday to either Croyde (North Devon) or Bournemouth. We think both places have things to do and have good beaches. It's our first proper family holiday and my Son will be 14 months by then. We like the idea of a cottage / apartment or a log cabin for the flexibility of being able to eat out at night but also have breakfast or lunch in our own environment. So we're looking for somewhere that would be a 10 - 15 min walk to a few restaurants / pubs or a short drive. Last year we stayed somewhere that was an hour to the nearest supermarket and pub and it was waaay too remote for my liking. So something near places to eat and a small supermarket would be ideal!

Has anyone been to one of these places recently and could recommend a good place to stay for a couple with a 14 month old infant? Any tips welcome!

Many thanks,

We stayed at Willingcott Valley Golf Resort (2 miles inland from Woolacombe) a few years ago when the kids were younger. You don't have to be involved in the golf side of things at all. We rented a 2-bed cottage - it was compact but lovely. Very peaceful, outdoor pool behind us and a clubhouse where you can get lunch/dinner. 4 miles from Croyde (which I loved). You may prefer to be in or near a village though?!
