Just starting to think about what to do for a summer holiday this year with DD (4) and DH. It's probably the last year we will want to go in term time, and there is a chance we will have DC2 by the following summer if it happens, so it seems to me this is a good year to do something special. Previous Summer holidays with DD have been Haven holiday parks in UK, which we have enjoyed and would certainly consider again, but this year seems a good year to do something different, ideally abroad. Budget probably 1000 for accomodation and travel - preferably less if self catering, maybe stretch a couple of hundered higher for all inclusive. It would be May or June, and we wouldn't want very long drives or flights. Would consider a ferry. Ideally a beach would be involved.

So, can anyone recommend anything that would suit us on a budget?

hi Jersey is really nice. We stayed at the Merton hotel which has mini water park - very tame and a brilliant kids club. The food was really nice too. Jersey is very easy(and small) to drive around. (1hr flight frm uk)
We went to St Brelades bay which has a lovely beach, cafes, restaurants etc. There are also castles, gardens, a shell garden. Lots of activities, farms, things to do.
We also had a great holiday at Portinax in Ibiza, hotel was right on the lovely beach. (2 1/2 hrs frm uk)
Also cap Salou in Spain, lovely beach and a lot quieter than Salou itself.
(2 1/4 hrs frm uk)
These should all be around your budget for May/June.

We have rented houses in the Netherlands through a company called
Rompoort.

Center parcs in Europe - we went to Bispinger Heide in Germany - no beach though.

Look on travel republic or Expedia. You can get a week AI in Ibiza for under £1000

I went to the Merton as a child and absolutely loved it - lots of fond memories!

Italy. The food, climate, culture, people... what's not to love? We've been there several times with our 2 DCs and all love it. We've used Key Camp, Thompson and similar, staying in caravans on camp sites. Cheap as chips. Beautiful beaches, warm seas, awesome cities like Venice, Rome, Florence, Sienna, Pompeii, Almalfi coast... and THE BEST pizza and ice cream you will get on planet earth. Oh and a public transport system that puts ours to shame (not that that's very hard).
