Currently it's between these two places. If anyone has been to either place and liked a particular resort I would be very interested. Would also welcome other suggestions - has to be Europe (either Italy or Spain), near the beach, family-friendly and not too crowded.

Amalfi is gorgeous. Also a bit further south on the coast - Santa Maria. We usually go in October with cvtravel.co.uk

thanks for that ediemay - will have a look at that site.

Sorry, meant to say - CV have lovely villas & apartments for rent and you can also stay in the gorgeous Palazzo Belmonte. Got to go now & sweep the garage!

Went to Sorrento before kids but iirc there isn't much beach there and what there is is stony whereas Amalfi has more of one. We took a bus trip and stopped there and it seemed a nicer resort. Other towns along that stretch of coastline can be quite steep but it levels out more at Amalfi and beyond.

yes edimay, I had a quick look at the cvtravel site, the villas do look lovely, although we may decide on a hotel - you like Palazzo Belmonte? Thanks LIZS for that tip, will rule out Sorrento. I think it will hopefully be Amalfi then.

hi saadia, yes Palazzo Belmonte is wonderful and the CV staff know it well so they can recommend the right apartment for you. We have had 3 lovely visits and I'd go back anytime.

Three visits ediemay you obviously like it a lot. It does sound lovely, I'm really looking forward to it now. Just the small matter of convincing dh now.
