I am hoping to plan a weekend 'away' (ie not at home, could still be in UK) in April for my DH's 30th birthday. We will possibly have our 2.5 year old dd with us and I will be approx 12 weeks pregnant.
It would be nice to do something we would all enjoy but with the emphasis on the birthday boy.

He likes outdoor stuff (eg skiing but that is out this year with the bean on board!) climbing, art, film, pubs, food....

We enjoy camping but April may be a bit chilly and as we have not been abroad since DD was born I wondered if a Euoropean city might be in order? We have visited Rome before and loved it.

Any good ideas? (Budget has to be under £1000, even less if possible)
:)

Marrakech? The weather will be nice, the food is superb, lots of interesting things for dd to look at (snakes! monkeys! etc) and it's quite a lovely place to be when pregnant as there's zero emphasis on alcohol.

Bruges, Hamburg, Barcelona, Lisbon, Copenhagen, Pompeii, Florence?

Mmmm, Marrakech sounds good! I also like the sound of Bruges and Barcalona. Why Hamburg Noramum? Is it better than Berlin?

Barcelona would be fab. Short flight. Beach if it's sunny.Nice places to eat and wander. Might book a trip myself!

Apart from the fact that it is my husband's hometown?

It is very different from Berlin, I thought if he likes being outside he may prefer a large harbour city. You have lots of outdoor space, boat trips, history, fresh fish to eat, if you fancy the Baltic Sea is easy to reach by train.

Otherwise - Barcelona is a fab choice for little ones.

How about staying in UK and going to Gleneagles?

Creamycoolerwithcream · 23/01/2014 13:11

I had a lovely long weekend at Druids Glen Hotel which is about 40 minutes from Dublin. It's 5 star but so family friendly with lots of lovely scenery and walks in the area. We also had a great day out in Dublin.

Thank you for the ideas, Hamburg sounds lovely. I grilled him a bit last night about where he might like to go and he would prefer to stay in the UK as we will be a bit pushed for time-it can only be Friday night to Sunday now so I will have a look at Gleneagles. Thanks for the link too Porto :)
