Travel cots: What bedding etc?

I'm being very dim...
Travel cots: I have a Graco Travel cot and going abroad in October. DS will be 12 months. He's never slept in a travel cot yet. Questions are:

1. Does anyone use any special bedding?
2. The fold away mattress base seems very hard, so is there an extra mattress to be used with it?
3. Flying with Easy Jet. Anyone know what the excess baggage charge is? (Just in case we over do it) (I lost the will to live waiting on the telephone for them to put me through )

We just used a regular stretch fitted cot sheet and sheet/blanket. You can get an additional mattress from Kiddicare, I think, but we have just used the normal one and it may make it more bulky to travel with. You can have 20kg per passenger , excluding infants, a car seat goes free and excess charges are here . You will probably find your luggage isn't as much as you fear anyway and they may well allow a travel cot on in addition , as some airlines do. You could always email them instead and at least have any agreement in writing.

I just take a single bed flat sheet for the bas e so it tucks well under nicely and use a baby sleeping bag. Dont know about a mattress but you could put a towel under the sheet or a blanket to pad it out.
Get him to sleep in it before you go and practise making it up so neither of you are anxious.

we always put a towel or two on travel cot mattresses as they are pretty hard.Under the sheet of course!

We just used a normal flat cot sheet on the bottom, and then put DD into her sleeping bag on top of that.

Thanks for the tips so far. Didn't realise you can take the child seat on the flight.

you can only take the child seat on the flight with you if you've paid for a seperate seat for the child. Otherwise it has to be checked in as luggage and DS has to sit on your lap.
