Hello,

We're off to Arundel Castle next weekend - can anyone recommend a nice pub (riverside?) with good food in the area? We'll have our 3yr old ds so would need to be family friendly!

TIA

I have worked in possibly every food establishment in Arundel!

The Tea gardens are nice if it's sunny (just oppisite the castle) you can take boats out or a mini cruise to Amberly.

The Tudour Rose isnt nice its very posh.

Belinda's is a nice tea shop

Papperdelles is Italian food's not to bad and quite cheap.

The Marygate Pub serves lovley food a bit more pricey though, thats next to the Cathedral.

Red Lion is not a nice place tends to get the likes of the young rougher crowd

If you took a picnic Swan Bourn Lake is lovley you can take boat rides and see the wildlife.

There is also a playpark and a putting green in that area and some castle ruins.

Thanks so much Charlee! I wasn't expecting anything like that!
We're going to the castle in the morning so I was hoping that we'd be able to find a nice pub or something for a late lunch-you've given me loads to go on.

Thanks alot

oh I love arundel

if the castle is getting too much for ds, there is a wetlands trust (think that is the name, will look it up for you) wild fowl place that is fab for kids and it's right by the castle (basically just round the corner)

arudnel wildfowl and wetlands trust

I think children under 4 are free. I know someone told me they do a family membership place if you like the look of it because there's one in Barnes aswell that apparently, has just got a new adventure playground (have not been there for ages but friends went last week)

charlee, what about the black rabbit? isnt that right on the river?

Charlee · 29/07/2006 19:30

Yeah The Black Rabbit is next to the River its a nice pub but a bit tucked away. What they used to do when i worked there was you caould take a mini cruiser up the river Arun from the Arundel Tea Gardens to the Black Rabbit then eat and come back wich is nice.

FanjoandZooey · 29/07/2006 19:37

I would say the Black Rabbit but haven't been there for a few years. Used to be a fab place.

Fox-thanks for the link. It looks amazing and we'll definitely be paying that a visit also as ds will love it.
Thanks for all the other info. I found the Black Rabbit mentioned on a website but its recent reviews weren't great so if anyone has been there recently I'd appreciate any views. Thanks
