Brittany (I think)

Looking for somewhere to take dd5, ds2 plus dh and his sister in the first week of the school summer holidays. Don't want to drive down south (found a brilliant site down there but the journey was just sooo expensive) so thinking about Brittany. Saw pictures of Benodet and was really taken. Have been to the Vendee - was pretty non plussed. So, I wondered if anyone had any recommendations for either campsites (caravan/lodges etc?) or gites/holiday homes in the area - or even areas.... thanks so much...

we weren't that keen on north vendee either. brittany is great - think cornwall with better weather and food and less tat. we have been to all coastal areas of brittany. our favourite is probably around the carnac area - weather is slightly more reliable, gulf de morbihan is pretty island area, some beaches are busy, others are almost empty. if you search here you will find campsites, or look on ukcampsites.co.uk. men du beach is one of our favourites anywhere we have been - and we live by the coast so are super fussy. benodet area is nice - but there was a lot of rain when we were there which resulted in some nasty smells on the beach...but probably due to weather

Brittany is lovely, but the weather is not reliable.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE DOWN ON A SATURDAY IN AUGUST.

This place is lovely. Really clean, good facilities and walking to the beach. Camping or mobile homes to rent

We are here near to Vannes on the South Brittany coast. We are pretty much booked up until the end of September now, but you're welcome to cat me if you need any advice about the area etc

Benedetto pleasant but weather unreliable I would go far south as you can

3 years ago we stayed here in a mobile home: le ranolien which is central north coast near Perros Guirec and it was great. I admit we only used the pool twice, and mainly day tripped and spent ages on a couple of the local beaches which were lovely, Trestraou and Trestignel (sp?) a short drive away (and no parking charges!); sandy as a Cornish beach but oddly very few of the crowds! We went at the end of August- maybe 'Paris' had gone back by then? I say that because we made a return visit, the fortunate recipients of a mate's largesse, using her very rural cottage about half an hour inland this past summer in mid July and it was a bit busier. The local markets are fab, the scenery very easy on the eye. We've got ferries from Weymouth to St Malo and Cherbourg to Portsmouth (I think I got that the right way round!). It's about a 3 hour drive from Cherbourg to the central northern coast but it's all freeway.

We're hoping for a repeat invite to our mate's cottage Grin!

We've stayed here in Benodet
www.campingdupoulquer.com/

and in La Trinite sur mer (near Carnac)

and had a fabulous time at both

My preference was for the site in Benodet because it was so easy to walk to the beach and the town and Benodet seemed like the perfect French holiday town (although we were there in May, so it could be crowded in the height of Summer). Loved it though and thinking of going back to the same place. We had a 4 and a 3-year old then.

We had a fab week in Benodet last summer staying in self catered apartment booked through Brittany Ferries, but please note, the long curved beach which looks like white sand is actually very fine pebbles which really hurt bare feet! I thought it was all soft white sand.
