Due to DS A levels and being the "looser" in the scrabble for holidays in the summer at work ( am and always will be bound to school hols as DH teaches) I am feeling very fed up.

I have the week after Easter BH -and am child free that week - so just me and DH for a few days ( have to be back for the kids at the weekend I believe, so that'll be in the UK.

A week in Late august and October half term.

(and a week on a course at the start of august)

What shall we do? Oct half term will only be me DH and Dd2 (15), the summer could be 4 or 5 of us...

We like... scenery, cities, museums and history but also I like heat and beaches LOL I've just learned to veg out on holiday.

We are quite adventurous but cheapskates. We loved Sofia at Oct half term 2012 for instance. Iceland was our big " building memories" holiday ( in youth hostels!) and my sister lives in spain and DH feels we've "done that" over the past couple of years. Would hate all incl and hotels with " entertainment" etc,

THanks!

Runoutofideas · 17/01/2014 11:27

Late August - villa in Tuscany - close to Florence/sienna, vineyards etc

Theas18 · 17/01/2014 11:37

late august in tuscany... heaven! And yes a riad wouldn't be expensive would it.

Now I can get a bit excited :)

Croatia? Zadar and the Plitvice lakes? Budapest? A week split between Kracow and Zakopane in Poland? Cinque Terre villages in Italy. You can stay nearby in a residence with a pool and get the train up and down the coast between them. Stunning!

would love to go to Chicago, Bratislava, Italian lakes

Taffeta · 17/01/2014 13:16

Most places in Italy, tbh.

Was going to suggest Croatia for late August, but Portofino has beaten me to it.

You say you have done Spain, but does that include the Balarics and Canaries? Balarics at the end of August and/or Canaries in October?

Somewhere like Bruges/Amsterdam in April?

I went to Sicily in 2012 and really liked it. Intersting buildings, volcano and it's definitely hot in the summer.
