Does such a place exist?

! am getting a bit overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of self catering lets available and don't really know how to focus my search so am looking for recommendations for location.

We are 2 families, each with a 2-3yr old and a baby. So we'd ideally like 4 bedrooms although I am sure the toddlers could share if we had a 3 bedroom place. Babies in with the parents.

We want self catering, with a pool, preferably gated, walking distance to amenities, walking distance or short drive to beaches. We'd like a few meals out and if possible would not want to have to drive. The perfect place would be on a group of similar properties where the owners are able to provide the odd meal or breakfast hamper.

Toys and/or playground for the kids would be great.

We wouldn't want to pay more than £1750 between the two families for the accommodation.

I just can't find anywhere that comes close.

We are mainly looking at Spain and Portugal but would be happy with Greece or Italy too (as long as flights don't make the cost prohibitive)

We don't like overly touristy areas with thousands of people, but a bit of an atmosphere would be nice. Not totally remote.

Thanks!

Have a look at totstotravel.co.uk - I haven't used them but came across them while looking for our holiday for autumn, they seem to have some fabulous reasonable holidays for families with young kids.

Thanks for the replies. I'll look into those places. Tots to travel looks good.

That place looks pretty perfect, porto, although they seem to be totally booked up for the bigger properties. Also we had hoped to avoid france as we have been every year for the past 4.

Sorry I forgot to say we want to go in early september. Thanks again!

the keycamp type holidays are great for this type of thing - and if you take a car with you you have all the freedom you want - or not

there are some great places on turkey too

sleepcrisis · 16/01/2014 09:11

Thanks , we're not really looking for a eurocamp type place - too many people, not so personal... We're really going to catch up with some good friends so don't need all that entertainment. Just nice local villages and beaches, but somewhere that is geared up for small children. I think we're like somewhere with a few other cottages on site just for atmosphere but no more than say 6-10 other properties.

Haven't considered Turkey but will look into it.

any more suggestions welcome!

We went here in Sardinia for our honeymoon. We had an apartment rather than a villa, but you could use all hotel services. Prices in September would seem to be within budget.

We're thinking of going here in June - we stayed at one of the owners other properties last year near gale on the algarve and accommodation very high quality. This is slightly inland but hopefully will be very nice- they have 2,3and4 bed places and provide all baby equip etc - 4 bed in Sep €1340
