So we have narrowed our holiday/honeymoon down to Portugal- so much stuff to decide but ultimately we will have our 18mth old DS with us. We want to be able to walk to the beach, still get in the sun when he's asleep, have the flexibility of self catering etc and most of all still be able to get out and walk to bars and restaurants on an evening.

So we've got Vale do Lobo as a front runner in one of the luxury villas.

For those that have been has it got everything we need and would you recommend it?

Do you need a car or is it just a matter of getting too and from airport.

not been there, but my son went to the gated resort that has lots of sport and is favoured by footballers etc - he liked it, but we couldn't justify the cost, espec villas.

have you looked at Lagos - we've been a couple of times and really like it. Stayed at the dona ana end - had about 6 different beaches within walking distance and because of the cliffs it was reasonable temperature. you could do without a car.

petty theft if quite rife in portugal....bit like spain. so would go somewhere with security - we had high hedge/gates round ours and alarm in the villa. alvor also looked nice when we visited for the day
