Would love to go to Vancouver but don't want to spend too long on the road (and the train is too £££). Can anyone suggest a family friendly itinerary with shortish drives? Thanks

alma - we are going for 3 weeks - briefly here is our itinary. fly into Vancouver, sunshine coast, back to van city, up to jasper (with stops on the way but it is only 8 hour drive) then to Golden then home. happy to share all the huge amount of info and research I have already done. did flirt with the idea of van island but honestly felt you would need at least 10 days to do it justice and we wanted to go to the rockies. finding accom for the summer has been a nightmare - all very booked up and a lot more expensive than expecting but have found some bargains. pm me and I will send you all the details (warning - there is a lot of it!!) if you just want to stay in Vancouver then would say van city, van island for 10 days Nanaimo, Victoria, tofino then up north and then a few days on the sunshine coast then up to whistler (where accom is hellish expensive).

Stayed 3 days in Vancouver without a car. Easy to get a bus to grouse mountain and I forget the name of the big rope bridge but it's easy enough to get there too. Stanley park will fill a day, it's a big walk (or cycle). Sealife centre in the park is great.
