A quick passport question

How long must a passport have to run before it expires for them to not let you abroad? That doesn't make sense does it?!
Do you need a certain amount of time left on a passport in order for you to be allowed abroad, just to France?

Varies by country. Usual limit is 6 months. But doesn't apply to every country.

Do you know how I can find out?
Mother just said daughter of her friend had to rush off to get new passport for child as it was going to expire in a year. They're going to Majorca.

Sounds very wrong. I think that Majorca is one of the ones without a limit.

Ladymuck · 26/07/2006 21:01

here - no limit

LIZS · 26/07/2006 21:05

Within EU you are usually ok within the last 6 months of validity. Check the French embassy website here - ok as long as still valid for your return trip.

Thank you, you have made me very happy

wow i never knew sometimes you couldn't travel if your passport only had 6 months left on them - what's the point of an expiry date if it actually runs out 6 months before it?!!
