Ideas for sunny, peaceful family holiday?

After the last 2 years' non-stop rain debacles at summer half term, we have decided to push further afield for a week's holiday, in search of some sunshine.

I'd really appreciate ideas from Mumsnetters with primary age kids for places that tick some or all of these boxes:

  • sunshine pretty much guaranteed at the end of May
  • less than 5 hours' flighttime
  • sandy beaches, naturally beautiful without not rows of sunbeds and umbrellas.
  • possibly with watersports or interesting things to see

What we don't want is a very touristic place, or anywhere densely populated.

Your recommendations would be appreciated.

The Greek islands are lovely at that time of year, how about Skiathos or Kefalonia?

Son Bou in Menorca has a great beach and is very family friendly, peaceful and beautiful.

LÁmetlla de mar in Spain, Tarragona area is no too touristy, theme park at Portaventura, boat trips, lovely child friendly beaches, jungle gym park, knights templar castles , Tarragona roman ruins....loads of different activities in area.

I worked a few seasons in Greece. It almost always rained for May half-term week, was lovely before and after.

I have no idea why this should be but it was awful for a busy resort full of people who had paid extra.
