Car Seat Help!

My son is now 3 years old, he weighs 16kg and is quite tall for his age. He is looking quite big in the car seat he is in at the minute. I was looking at getting him a new car seat (a booster one with the back) but I'm so confused by the law because it says for that type of seat age 4-12 but then says about the weight too. I just wondered if there are any others out there with some advice or guidance. Thanks in advance!

if his ears are not in line with the back of the seat yet then he is ok in his current seat until he is 18kgs or until he does get too tall for it.

p.s. although the high backed boosters are ok from 15kgs I would still keep him in his current seat for as long as possible

You should keep him in his current seat until he's 18kg. Only if his eyes are over the top of the seat you should change it. It's safest to keep him in his current seat for now.

My ds is 3.4 and weights 18.4kg. I got the Britax kidfix seats for both our cars, they seem safe and secure and had good reviews.

DD was 3 3/4 when we moved her. She was only just 15kg but outgrew the seat (ears above the top of the seat) and it was deemed unsafe not to move her.

If you can keep your child in the seat as long as you can. Unless you drive 2+ hours each week a bit of a squeeze is not a problem. And remember, nobody should wear a thick padded wintercoat in a car seat.
