My boyfriend and I want to take a holiday before we have the baby. I will be five months pregnant in Feb and we are looking for a hot yet safe destination to go to. Any tips/advice welcome please!

Congratulations. We went to Dubai when I was in the middle trimester of my first pregnancy and it was great. Warm, safe, nice spas for pregnancy pampering and a shorter flight than some other places. An added bonus was the impressive range of non alcoholic cocktails. There are a lot of hotels so you can often find good deals too.

Have a lovely holiday wherever you choose.

nowhere is totally safe of course.

How hot will you want it at that stage of pregnancy? You should be fit to fly but make sure your insurance covers you if you aren't.

stay out of malarial zones and be aware that anywhere tropical is a dengue risk.

what do you like to do on holiday?

Dubai, Egypt or cape Verde would be shorter destinations. Bit further would be the Caribbean. I went to the Maldives twice whilst pregnant, once at 24 weeks, the next at 31 weeks with the next baby, although both trips were planned before i got pregnant, seemed whenever i booked a Maldives holiday, i got pregnant a month later !

South Africa is great - lovely weather and no time difference. We stayed in Cape Town and visited the Garden Route. Fantastic.

If our budget would allow then I'd choose Barbados like a shot. Or Mauritius. Both safe, hot, lovely people and good hotels.

We went on holiday in September when I was 22 weeks pregnant. Wanted somewhere hot but not too far away so opted for a villa in lanzarote, and it was lovely! It was a 4 and a half hour flight so not too long. We were going to go long haul but I'm so glad we didn't as I don't think I'd have coped with a longer flight. The canaries should be decent weather in February too Smile

Antigua is very safe as far as the Caribbean is concerned. I went last February it was amazing. So hot and sunny and incredibly friendly helpful locals.

I thought airlines did not carry pregnant women past 28 weeks! Obviously that rule is relaxed from my day as one poster went at 31 weeks, but would you get insurance? I think that might be a problem so check it all out because if your baby comes early with no insurance, this could dent your finances for ever more! Having said that, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi would be relaxing or Caribbean.

I went to Thailand at 5 months pregnant. Just make sure you avoid malarial areas.

canary islands are lovely all year round and no too long a flight. I went to ibiza at 5 months (the quiet part!) and just qualified for the travel insurance so do check that.

Past about 28 weeks (depending on airline), you need a fit to fly letter. I flew back from Spain at 33 weeks, no issues with insurance.

Another vote for South Africa here. We went January/February when I was 5 months pg with DD1. T'was fab, stayed with my auntie near Durban, was lovely beachy holiday.

Anywhere where the hygiene is good and you don't need innoculations would be my criteria.

Hi op
I went to Florida at 21/22 weeks last feb, it was great. Done Epcot and magic kingdom, as me and my husband are big kids. I took it easy and had a great time. The weather was unusually hot last feb, they had record temps for a few days when we were out there, it did get a lil uncomfortable at times. No fit to fly letter needed.

I also went to Majorca at 31 weeks. Small battle with doc to get fit to fly letter, required for Ryanair flight.... They never bloody looked at it. It was lovely temperature wise but a bit of a rubbish holiday as we took MIL who is very difficult.

I had a great pregnancy with no complications. I didn't even feel pregnant or have any symptoms, so I don't know if my experiences are helpful. (I'm not being smug, my birth was a disaster!)

Our insurance was with Lloyds bank. They didn't seem to give a monkeys either time. The woman said something like "oh thanks for phoning but there's no need, pregnancy isn't one of the conditions listed that you must tell us about. Yes, that is odd isn't it?" Confused

Not sure how far you want to go or what you consider "safe".

I went to Egypt (Luxor) 5 months pregnant, and last year went to Thailand 3 months pregnant. Both were really good. Egypt was good as it was got but it was a dry heat, if it was humid I think it would have been more difficult.

I checked with our insurers both times and it wasn't a problem.
