Hi all travelling to china and will be doing some travel by train. My question is how do we know when to disembark? I understand they don't announce in English for many of the stations so I'm concerned I won't have a clue when to get off the train! Eeeekkkk

I have travelled by train in China a few times, but generally with a mandarin speaker. I think it would have been hard to cope alone, but it depends a bit where you are travelling. For instance, the underground in Shanghai is very easy, and the bullet trains are ok, but an ordinary train outsde of the main tourist areas might be a struggle. However, you can usually find someone who speaks English and is happy to help you.

You'll be fine, check cnvol website for train timetables www.cnvol.com

There are G trains (super fast) D trains (fast) and T/K trains (slow.)

The G & D trains all speak English on the announcements and ticker-banner on departure/arrivals.

Tickets are well priced.

You must show your passport to buy a ticket.

There's usually Starbucks, KFC, McDonalds etc at the main stations.

Have a good trip x

We found map apps on the phone invaluable for that sort of thing. Just make sure you get a pre-paid SIM card on arrival there and turn roaming off and it will be no worries.
