Holiday in Feb with baby?

I want to book a holiday for the last week of February. Ideally somewhere warm enough to sit on the beach. DS will be 6 months old so we don't need there to be much in the way of night life except for nice restaurants.

I only want to spend about a grand for the 3 of us though. Can anybody suggest anywhere nice? I can only really think of the Canary Islands but to be honest have really never fancied them.

Caribbean is hot at that time of year.

Bit out of our budget I'm afraid.

I know you said you don't fancy Canary Islands but I had 2 good holidays in Tenerife in apartments when DS1 was 10 weeks and the second when he was 2 at Christmas and in early March. The weather was sunbathing weather and good for pottering about and there was a nice promenade for pushing the pram in the evening before eating out. I think Cape Verde could also work but it sounds more hotel based.

watching with interest..

The issue with February is that you do need to go quite far to get heat so that bumps up the cost. The Canary Islands are all different and have a lot to offer and reasonably priced, otherwise you are looking at North Africa or dubai if you don't want long haul, dubai expensive.

Can anybody recommend any nice resorts in the canaries?
I think I'm being a bit snobby because a good friend of mine goes to Tenerife and lanzarote and she favours the drink loads and eat burgers type of holidays. I don't want to eat a fry up on holiday I want to eat local food.

We had a very local style holiday in Lanzarote when I was pregnant, we stayed at a B and B in an old finca run by a British couple. I too had a bad image of the canaries but really most of the island wasn't like that, just a few built up bits of the coast.

Have a look at the websites babyfriendlyboltholes or I escape with kids. I have also heard the princess Yaiza is good (think there are reviews on MN reviews section).

I do think that the canaries is going to be your best bet for sun on a budget in February. Morocco might work too but the beaches would be very windy, you'd be better off further south in Morocco.

I think there is only one part of lanzarote that is burger fry up type place. Apart from that you should be fine. We had a lovely time there, loads to see, the volcanic national park, the artist manriques house and work etc. beaches not great, black sand etc in some parts. Fuerteventura has better beaches. Won't be roasting hot at that time of year in canaries but should be warm, get somewhere with heated pool
