Could do quirky... not hugely expensive though. Must be central. Anyone stayed anywhere lovely?

I can thoroughly recommend Tasburgh House hotel. It might not meet your criteria though, as it's a good 20 minute walk into the town centre (v nice, across the gardens and along by the canal), and a £7 taxi ride back.

I think it's about £160 a night for two - perhaps a bit more than you wanted too. It's wonderfully comfortable, and very friendly, and we had a really refreshing two night stay there.

Thanks OneHand, I ll take a look but I was really wanting something a bit more central?

tbh we stayed in the travelodgey type place a few minutes walk from town and blew the budget on a spa day at bath spa including lunch and the lovely open air heated pool a luxury in winter.
