Campsites in Italy. I have many questions.

We are hoping to go away with friends this Summer. We have a list, a long list, of requirements. Must be on beach, good accommodation, water sports and activities on site, good pools, good supermarket/shops on site, nice restaurants on site.
We think we have narrowed it down to these, near (ish) to Venice.

Sant Angelo
Union Lido
Pra Delle Torri

If you are still with me (apologies for length), can you let me know if you've been to any of these? What were they like etc?
Any recommendations for other similar places?
And are the mosquitoes very bad? Did they drive you nuts in the evening? What did you use to get rid of them?

Thanks for reading!

I have been to Union Lido and really enjoyed it. We went in June mind - I think in August it might be overwhelmingly busy. Loads to do on site - nice bars and restaurants. Huge sandy beach. Mini disco for the kids in the evening. Nice pool complexes - you had to be quick to get a sunbed though. They sprayed every evening for the mossies. I don't remember it being especially bad. I would definitely go for a mobile with decking as otherwise you get a table and chairs in the dust.

Park Albatros is the other italian site we have been to. That was fab! Hot though and you need to drive to get to a decent beach. The pool complexes on site were great for little kids though and dd loved the Kids club.

Great sites on the Adriatic but they will be very busy and very hot in mid summer.

We did a day trip to Venice on the ferry. we nearly died from the heat!!!

Bella Italia ( has lake beach). Somewhere we all want to go back to. Plenty of places to sightsee, and lovely walkable village along lakeside.

we did ca savio which is near unionlido in may/june and the mossies ruined it basically.

there were there ALL the time-day and niht and were huge 'tiger mosquitos'

my feet swelled so badly i could only fit flip flops on my feet. all the italians smoke constantly and we reckon it's to drive the mossies away.

other than the mossies it was lovely and being able to go into venice was fabulous but the mossies were awful beyond belief

You want to go here it us amazing - direct bus to Venice from outside the campsite and it has everything you need. You can also get the bus to Caorle in the opposite direction with lovely shops, restaurants and a great family friendly waterpark, not like the teenage frenzy further south! There's a short walk into the town of Eraclea Mare which has a market, great shops, restaurants etc. the campsite is very secure with great pools, wee slides, fab facilities and is on the beach. Food at the deli in the shop and the restaurant was fantastic. Thoroughly recommend Smile

We went in August both times and weather was lovely - campsite sprayed for mozzies but we used anti mozzie repellant and were fine! Venice was busy but not TOO busy and no more expensive than any other popular city - prices dropped outside St a Marks Sq. Best views are from San Giorgio the wee island with a church and tower opposite St Marks - cost pennies to get over there and view was to die for- just try not to be in the bell tower on the hour when the bell rings!

Stayed at both Portofelice and Pra delle Torri twice.
Loved them both but for different reasons. On balance I personally prefer Portofelice as it is smaller, cosier feel and can walk into Eraclea Mare. Lovely restaurants and couple of nice bars there.
Pra delle Torri is bigger and has more to do. The pool complex is fab and depending on how old your DC are will depend on what you are looking for.
I love the aqua aerobics at Portofelice! The evening entertainment is a bit dire but buy your own booze at the supermarket and it's bearable!

Mozzies are bad all along that coast but I found Portofelice sprayed better. Pra delle Torri has a golf course which DH and DS loved.
Venice and Caorle easy to get to on the bus.
In fact we haven't bothered with a car for last 4 years as there are buses direct from airport which drop you right outside the campsites

If you need any more just shout
