Help! Hot Xmas 2014 on a budget

It's been years since our last holiday and we are particularly poor after long term illness, one income and one ds. But i can now save a tiny bit. How do I find a good deal for December 2014? Perhaps Thailand or Mexico or some such? I'm clueless!

The week before Christmas is normally quite a bit less than the actual week and New Year is even more than Christmas. I'd start by pricing up some flights and hotels separately and also some packages. Egypt is probably the best value for a hot/warm Christmas holiday.

We went to Tenerife for 9 days, returning on Christmas Eve (journey from hell - Brum instead of Gatwick!) but apart from that it was wonderful. 22C all day - light from 7.30am to 6.15pm, swum twice a day & got a tan. Absolute bargain as few people travel back from places like that on 24/12.

How old is DS? You can also get good deals by returning on NYE or Boxing Day - it just shifts your Christmas a bit, but quite honestly, having had some sun I don't care. But it is just me & DH & we are old!!

I second Tenerife, we have just returned from two weeks there (6th to 20th December ) in a 4 star hotel on half board. It cost about £600 each including flights. Had a wonderful time and the weather was mostly warm and sunny.

Problem with going away at Xmas is it is much more expensive than going the month before or after

Can't avoid high seasons though as I work in schools, although could start a week later in January and finish the week before schools officially break.

My only concern is that 22C isn't quite hot Hmm

Any agent/website recommendations?

Glad some of you have enjoyed some winter sun!

I used Going Places for Cuba, Virgin for St Lucia and Mexico and Thomson for Jamaica. Thomson also does Thailand and Mexico but they are both quite expensive places at that time of year. What sort of budget do you have? It's often cheaper to book flights and accommodation separately but risky at Christmas if the flight is cancelled due to bad weather.

gambia or senegal?

MABS · 31/12/2013 15:16

Dubai Muscat or Abu Dhabi

lessonsintightropes · 31/12/2013 15:48

Goa or Kerala are both family friendly and cheap in Dec.

k2togm1 · 09/01/2014 12:31

Thanks all, but free looking at prices there is no way we can go anywhere... Oh wellHmm

Could you go at another time, Xmas is always one of the most expensive times of year
